Orphaned items can exist if they were inserted by a collaborator from their My Library or a group you don't have access to or if you they were deleted from your Zotero library. Items that are orphaned (not connected to any items in your Zotero database) will not have an “Open in My Library” button. In the Add Citation dialog box, you can click on the bubble for a cited item, then click “Open in My Library (or the Group Library's name)” to view the item in Zotero. You will be prompted to choose your citation style. Click on the Sync icon enter your Zotero username and password (which you created when you registered) Click on the Search icon install PDF indexing Click on the Export icon choose Default Style Output. Click on the General icon check Automatically attach associated PDFs. To add a citation to your document, you can choose 'Add/edit citation' from the menu or click on the Z button in the Google Docs toolbar. On a Mac, go to the main Zotero menu and click Preferences. Press Enter/Return again to insert the citation and close the Add Citation box.
